ILEAS MDC Grant Awards - 2010
The Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) is proud to announce that is has awarded $3,075,300 to 205 law enforcement agencies – both police and sheriffs - throughout the State of Illinois for 450 ruggedized squad car computers. These state of the art computers provide the ability to access state and national crime file and intelligence databases and communicate digitally with other law enforcement agencies statewide. These funds came from Federal Homeland Security Grants through the Illinois Terrorism Task Force and were administered by ILEAS.
The interest in this year’s grant was more than any previous year. ILEAS had 450 MDC’s budgeted and received grant requests for 923 from 229 agencies. The Grant Committee reviewed all the applications on July 15, 2010. The Committee consisted of 5 law enforcement executives representing agencies that did NOT apply for this grant.
- Milan Police Chief Mark Beckwith
- Byron Police Chief Todd Murray
- Silvis Police Chief Bill Brasche
- Richland County Sheriff Andrew Hires
- Livingston County Sheriff Robert McCarty
Supported by ILEAS staff, the Committee reviewed all 229 applications. They compared the applications to the priority list as previously established. The Committee was also dedicated to getting this equipment out to as many agencies as possible. To that end, some agencies received grants but did not get their entire request – for instance, applying for five MDC’s and being awarded two. However no matter how hard the Committee worked, it was not possible to award a grant to every applicant. A map displaying the distribution throughout Illinois can be found at this link.
The agencies that were awarded computers are invited to attend a workshop at the ILEAS Training Center in Urbana (map to ITC). At this workshop, we will complete all the grant paperwork and review the legal obligations. Prior to the workshop, you may wish to download and read the Attachment A - Terms and Conditions. The agencies will also have the opportunity to meet with the vendor, CDS Office Technologies. CDS is the State Bid Master Contractor and will be the primary contact point for configuration and shipping of the MDC’s. The workshop dates and times are based upon Region as follows.
