Officer Involved Shooting: Use of Deadly Force Criminal Investigation

Event Info
Date:
Tuesday, June 11, 2019 - 8:00am to Thursday, June 13, 2019 - 5:00pm
Description:

There is arguably no single event that can traumatize a police agency more than a police officer involved shooting incident. The criticism and intense scrutiny generated by the media, community activists, the general public, and the criminal justice system itself, can be enormous. This 2 1/2 day course will provide attendees with investigative knowledge that is applicable to all officers involved shooting incidents, regardless of the size of their department. Police officer involved shootings are vastly different from any other type of investigation; the stakes for the shooting officer and his department are so high that it is imperative that the investigation be conducted prescribed, impartial manner. The program will focus on the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to handle any deadly force incident.

The course will be presented by David Rivers, a retired Detective Sergeant from Metro-Dade PD. He was assigned to the Homicide Bureau for 20 of his 27 years, conducting and assisting in several hundred death investigations including homicides, suicides, non-vehicular accidental deaths and numerous officer involved shootings. David is currently the President of Voice & Ink Enterprises, Inc., a corporation that provides law enforcement training and expert witness testimony. He has instructed law enforcement officers in 48 states and 3 foreign countries and specializes in homicide investigations and officer involved shootings.
