Submitted by mwatson on Mon, 04/10/2017 - 3:11pm Event Info Date: Monday, October 23, 2017 - 8:00am to 4:00pmDescription: This training focuses on tactics, techniques and procedures when responding to a veteran or police officer that may be suffering from anxiety, depression or PTSD and will help to establish skills to assist in these special times. More and more veterans are coming home to our communities, and while many have a healthy transition, others face a myriad of difficulties from unemployment, depression, PTSD, and in some cases, destructive behavior such as domestic violence, suicide, and other disturbances. The instructor will recommend appropriate communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention techniques when encountering a veteran or fellow police officer in crisis. The one-day program will be presented by Silouan Green, a veteran who has worked for almost a decade with veterans and police officers on issues of transition and service. A survivor of a tragic jet crash as a U.S. Marine, he overcame severe PTSD and personally understands the kind of issues veterans face coming home and how to respond to them. The course will prepare officers to better respond to veterans while making themselves more resilient. Silouan is a dynamic speaker who provides a broad perspective that officers find refreshing, educational, and inspirational. This training will benefit patrol officers, detectives, street supervisors, agency managers, crisis negotiators, CIT officers, CIT instructors, and police social workers.
