The FY27 Illinois Criminal Justice Authority “Less Lethal Alternatives for Law Enforcement” Grant application with ILEAS is being finalized. ILEAS grant staff anticipate that agency applications for Taser 7 and/or Taser 10 packages will open in the coming months.
Agencies are encouraged to monitor their ILEAS membership page for updates. Once authorized, a mass email notification will be sent to all eligible agencies announcing the beginning of the application process and instructions on how to make your request.
Previous grant awards were generally limited to five or six devices per agency. For the FY2027 grant cycle, ILEAS anticipates that agencies may be eligible to receive additional units and encourages applicants to request the full number of devices needed. We hope to be able to make larger awards while also documenting the continued need to support this program by the state.
The final number of devices awarded will depend on the number of eligible applicants, available funding, and each agency’s demonstrated need. Agencies that received awards during previous grant cycles remain eligible to apply this cycle.
Additionally, ILEAS will continue to work with various vendors, MTU’s and ILETSB to offer a number of classroom and field training opportunities to equip officers and deputies with the tools needed to safely deal with subjects in need.
Eligibility
ILEAS is committed to serving the needs of Illinois law enforcement agencies and, whenever possible, seeks to make its programs and resources available to all agencies. However, for this particular grant opportunity, ILEAS must follow the eligibility requirements established by ICJIA.
Eligible Agencies
- A city, town, village, or other incorporated area;
- A sheriff’s department serving an unincorporated area; or
- A law enforcement agency for any unit of local government, as defined by Article VII of the Illinois Constitution, or a municipal corporation in Illinois.
Ineligible Agencies
The following agencies are unfortunately not eligible for funding under this grant opportunity according to limitations established by ICJIA.
- College and university law enforcement agencies; and
- State of Illinois law enforcement agencies.
