Effective Communications

This course is designed for federal, state and local emergency management officials, volunteer and other agency officials involved in emergency management who wish to improve their communication skills.

The course will enhance your ability to communicate more effectively during all aspects of an incident. Students will conduct a self-assessment of their listening skills and compare different communication styles. Students will discuss the importance of communication, and learn some of the best techniques for utilizing the different forms of communication. The students will also have the opportunity to learn and practice writing media messages utilizing Dr. Vincent T. Covello’s Message Mapping.
