Less Lethal Alternatives for Law Enforcement Grant Update

As we move into the New Year, ILEAS would like to provide an update on the two prongs of the Less Lethal Alternatives for Law Enforcement (LLA) grant.  As of the end of January, the total number of awarded agencies is 244.  There have been 25 agencies (10%) who have received reimbursement totaling more than $322,000.   The remaining agencies continue to work with ILEAS grant staff and the vendor to finalize purchase agreements and get the equipment shipped.

With regard to the training aspect of the LLA grant, contracts were reached with two vendors, Force Science and Calibre Press.  They will provide instructor-level and end-user classes.  Calibre Press will be conducting end-user training on “Avoiding Preventable Uses of Force.”  Force Science will be conducting instructor-level training on “Realistic De-escalation,” and end-user instruction on the “Fundamentals of Realistic De-escalation.”  Dates and locations are being finalized and will occur in regions throughout the State.  Further information will be posted to the ILEAS website when available.
